Origin and history of Borlotti pinto beans
The Borlotti bean, also called Pinto bean owes its last name to its mottled appearance. The term Pinto comes from Spanish where the bean is called Frijol pinto (speckled bean). The bean is native to Central America and is widely grown in Mexico and the Southwestern United States.
