Where does Xylitol come from?
Xylitol is also known as birch sugar. It is found as a natural sugar alcohol in many vegetables, fruits or bark of different trees. The extraction of Xylitol is very complex via the wood sugar (xylose) extracted. Finely cut wood is mixed with water. The wood-water mixture is then purified and filtered until all other substances are completely separated from the xylitol. Birch sugar has slightly less sweetness than the well-known refined (white) table sugar, but only slightly affects blood sugar levels.
The use of Xylitol Powder
This sugar is therefore very suitable for diabetics, as its glycemic value is only 7. The product is discouraged for children up to 3 years of age and adults should make the transition to this sugar slowly. This is because excessive consumption of xylitol can have a laxative effect.
