Cultivated in spring, Maca is a small root vegetable from the Maca plant grown at altitudes over 3500 metres. The maca is hand selected for the best quality then the maca root is cleaned in natural water, then dried. The temperature breaks down the starch molecules, extracting the starch facilitates digestion and promotes bioavailability of other nutrients.
Origin
Lepidium meyenii (maca) is a Peruvian plant of the Brassicaceae family that has been cultivated for over 2000 years and grows exclusively in the central Andes between 4000 and 4500 m altitude. Maca is used as a food supplement and also for its medicinal properties that are traditionally described.
