Pakistani Kala Namak Salt
Kala Namak is a kind of black salt and therefore also called black salt. Kala Namak is a salt granulated from the Pakistani and Indian Himalayas. The salt is an unrefined and naturally pure volcanic mineral salt, which is processed according to centuries-old traditions. Characteristic of this salt is the high content of water sulfide and iron.
Production process Kala Namak
Kala Namak is extracted from mines in Pakistan. The raw material is then heated in a cooker for 24 hours while it is in a sealed ceramic container along with charcoal. This process ensures that the sodium sulphate is converted to hydrogen sulphide and sodium sulphide, which gives Kala Namak its dark colour. After the heating process, it is cooled, stored and aged.
Applications Kala Namak Salt
Kala Namak gives food a sulphurous smell with a taste similar to the taste of eggs. In Indian cuisine, this is desirable and here Kala Namak is used as a seasoning in chutneys, Raitas, fruit salads and tofu scramble. Kala Namak is especially recommended with exotic fruits and vegetables, but also with fish. In addition, this salt is perfect for seasoning vegan dishes, due to its egg-like taste.
