Root Origin
The carrot (Daucus carota) is a tuberous plant and usually orange in colour, although purple, black, red, white and yellow variants also exist. These varieties are all domesticated forms of the wild carrot, which is native to Europe and southwest Asia. The plant probably originated in Persia and was originally cultivated for its leaves and seeds. The most commonly eaten part of the plant is the taproot, although the stems and leaves are also eaten. The domestic carrot is selectively grown for its greatly enlarged, more palatable taproot with less woody texture.
Processing into Carrot Granules
After harvest, the carrot is first washed and cut into pieces. These pieces are then dried. After this process, the roots are processed into carrot granules. The granules have an orange to red colour with a typical carrot aroma. The carrot granules have a slightly sweet taste and the dried pieces are suitable for soups, rice tables, noodles and fried rice dishes.
